Founded in 2002 by pioneering Chilean winemaker Aurelio Montes Sr., it is now led by his equally active son Aurelio Jr. The estate, named for the wild Patagonian goose ‘Caiquenes’ (the only bird capable of flying across the broad expanse of the Andes – like father & son) is impressive for its collection of priceworthy wines, which we have been publicising in Europe since 2012. Three of their top Mendoza vineyards lie at more than 1000m of elevation, and one is cultivated biodynamically.
