The Douro Boys, group of five highly respected producers of white and red table wines as well as Port Wines in the portuguese Douro Valley, have – again – organised their traditional „Pool Party“ during Vinexpo in Bordeaux. While most of the events around this big wine fair take place in prestigious Châteaux with glamorous programs, the Douro Boys set a refreshing counterpart with a relaxed and fun evening.
“We want our customers to feel well and to enjoy an evening based on friendship after a long, hot and exhausting business day at the fair.”, explains Francisco (Vito) Olazabal, of Quinta do Vale Meão.
To increase the “relax-factor” of the event even more, guests were invited to replace their business shoes with comfortable Flip-Flops, to take off their ties and jackets, to put on their swimming trousers and jump into the refreshing pool, before enjoying the current wines of the five producers, served together with excellent food.
Guests from more than 25 markets followed the invitation to a private house in Bordeaux, and stayed dancing and partying – until early in the morning.
At the same time, during the “World Congress of Vine and Wine” in Porto, the Douro Boys were presented and celebrated as an ideal example of cooperation and innovation in wine SMEs (small and medium enterprises) to an international public of wine professionals
The five wine families – Quinta do Vallado, Niepoort, Quinta do Crasto, Quinta do Vale D. Maria, and Quinta do Vale Meão – have formed the Douro Boys in 2003 in order to promote their wines and to “put the Douro Valley on the map”. Successfully, as one can see:
In less than 8 years, the export of the five Quintas has grown of 500 % in volume and 700 % in value.
The next joint stop of the Douro Boys will be in July, when they visit and show their wines together in São Paolo and Rio de Janeiro.
