Austria’s most important wine tasting: 1–5 September 2021

Single Vineyard Summit in Austria

All over the world, there are special vineyard sites that fascinate winegrowers and inspire them to vinify exceptional wines. In Austria, the development toward wines expressing a specific sense of origin is particularly dynamic at the moment. The Österreichische Traditionsweingüter (ÖTW), the winegrowers of Eisenberg & Leithaberg and the Steirischen Terroir- und Klasssikweingüter (STK) differ in regional characteristics & expression, but they share an objective: to offer a conjoint platform to the finest wines of Austria, which have grown in individual vineyards (Rieden) rich in character – from 1st through 5th September 2021 at Grafenegg in the state of Niederösterreich.

Schloss Grafenegg

Austria’s most important wine tasting
For five days at the beginning of September, wine experts both international and local will be given an opportunity to sample the finest single vineyard wines from ten Austrian winegrowing regions, before they are released to the market. These are the precise and keenly focussed white wines of the 2020 vintage, as well as the Grosse Riede wines from the STK (Steirische Terroir- und Klassikweingüter) estates, along with late releases from the outstanding 2019 vintage. The excellent 2019 reds will be on display, as well as the authoritative 2018 Reserves. These vintages are definitely sure to make the trip worthwhile!

These highly professional ‘silent tastings’ will be held in spacious Grafenegg Castle (some 45km west of Vienna) – with adequate physical distancing to satisfy corona-virus concerns. Since very few events have taken place so far this year, we expect heavy demand from all over Europe.

If you are planning to attend the Single Vineyard Summit, it is a very good idea for you to reserve your spot as soon as possible!

1–3 September
Sixty-eight estates make up the membership of the winegrowers’ association Österreichische Traditionsweingüter. Their ninety vineyards classified as »Erste Lage« sites are located in the winegrowing regions along the Danube: Traisental, Kremstal, Kamptal, Wagram, Wien & Carnuntum. Some two hundred wines from these Erste Lage sites – white wines from 2020 (as well as some late releases from 2019) and Carnuntum’s 2019 reds – will be presented at Grafenegg.

4 September
Eisenberg and Leithaberg are two wine-growing regions in Burgenland that are widely known for their distinctive wines of protected origin. They will be presenting a selection of the best single-vineyard wines from the two appellations – Eisenberg Blaufränkisch 2019, Leithaberg Blaufränkisch 2018 and Leithaberg whites from 2019.

5 September
The twelve member estates of the Steirische Terroir- und Klassikweingüter are considered to be the spearhead of viticulture in the Südsteiermark and Vulkanland Steiermark. This year for the first time, they will present their Erste Riede and Grosse Riede wines from 2019 – as well as older vintages – at the Single Vineyard Summit.

Created by experts for experts
The tasting of the single-vineyard wines has been organised exclusively for industry specialists. As a restaurateur, sommelier, journalist or wine merchant, you can attend the Single Vineyard Summit after booking your place in advance.
