The Douro Boys are back

The Douro Boys, a group of five highly respected producers of white and red table wines as well as Port Wines in the Portuguese Douro Valley are back in Asia. After a challenging tour in 2010 with an enormous, intensive program of tastings, seminars and dinners, the Douro Boys conquer again the cities Shanghai, Macau, Hongkong – and for the first time Beijing!

Great success

The Douro Boys group was founded in 2003. They are committed to quality and their goal is to increase the awareness of Portuguese wines throughout the world. The five families include Roquette from Quinta do Crasto, Olazabal from Quinta do Vale Meao, van Zeller from Quinta do Vale D. Maria, Niepoort, and Ferreira from Quinta do Vallado. The Douro Boys used to be the first group to actively promote Portuguese wines across the world. They travel continuously throughout all five continents, from Asia to South America, to present and promote the outstanding potential of the Douro Valley to wine connoisseurs and consumers.

Peerless Success Story

The Douro Boys cultivate only original Portuguese grapes, and produce their wines with old traditional methods. This guarantees that their wines represent a clear Douro personnality, they are very individual and have an incredible maturation potential as they are driven by impressing fruit, fresh acidity and strong tannins

Not only have the Douro Boys created a new high end image for their wines, but the export figures speak for themselves as well. Over the past nine years, the Douro Boys’ export has grown by 500% by volume and a noteworthy 700% by value. Their commitment to each other, coupled with their relentless passion and enthusiasm for their work and the unique terroir of the Douro Valley, is the basis for their success.

Especially the Asian market gains importance for the Douro Boys. The per capita wine-consumption in China has doubled since 2003, and Portugal ranks among the ten most important states of origin together with France, Italy, Australia. Over the last five years, the export of the Douro Boys to Asia has grown by 400%.

On the road again …

The Douro Boys spend a great deal of time travelling in 2012:

  • January: tasting in London in the Portuguese embassy,
  • February: Master Class and consumer tasting in New York City
  • April: Master Classes and seminars in Beijing, Shanghai, Macau & Hongkong
  • July: Master Class tastings in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
